For more than 35 years, Humble Crew has been making family life feel a little more manageable. Built on the legacy of Tot Tutors and based in Englewood, New Jersey, the brand designs affordable, parent-designed furniture and storage for kids — the bin organizers, front-facing bookracks, and play tables that help families turn a cluttered home into an orderly, imaginative space, without paying designer-brand prices. Its products are fixtures in playrooms and on the shelves of nearly every major retailer in the country.
But the business behind those deceptively simple products is not simple at all. As Humble Crew expanded across Amazon, Walmart, Target, Home Depot, Wayfair, and its own store, every new retail partner meant a new integration, a new onboarding timeline, and a new set of systems that had to talk to one another. Growth was outpacing the manual processes behind partner onboarding — and bringing a new partner online was taking longer than the business could afford.
To get ahead of that complexity, Humble Crew partnered with Altura Innovation to stabilize its NetSuite and Celigo stack and turn partner onboarding into something it could schedule, commit to, and repeat.
01
Onboarding That Couldn't Keep Pace with Demand
For a brand whose whole catalog is sold through retailers, the speed of bringing a new partner online is the speed of the business. And for Humble Crew, that step had become the bottleneck.
Justin Fung, Humble Crew's Head of Sales and Operations, described the core problem plainly: new-partner onboarding integrations were simply taking too long. And the cost wasn't only internal — every slow onboarding tested the patience of a trading partner whose own teams had timelines of their own. It reached the point where the roles reversed: instead of Humble Crew chasing the business, its retail partners were the ones asking when they could get started, eager to begin selling the products.
That demand was the good problem every brand wants — and a clear signal that the operations had to catch up to it. This wasn't a business in trouble; it was a business whose success had outgrown the systems underneath it.
That was the moment Humble Crew decided it didn't need to keep patching the same workflow. It needed a partner who could own the whole picture — integration, systems, and the business logic in between.
02
A Partner That Operates Like Part of the Team
Humble Crew had worked with developers before. What it hadn't found was a team that understood the business as well as the technology. The relationship with Altura felt different from the start — less like managing a vendor, more like gaining a partner.
“Our working relationship feels internal, not vendor–client. Communication is consistent, which makes projects easier to manage.”
That blurred line changed how the work got done. Altura translated the technical into the practical: identifying issues quickly, explaining them plainly to someone who isn't overly technical, and helping the team make decisions fast enough to keep projects moving. For Fung, that meant being able to shut the laptop at the end of the day without wondering what the night would bring.
03
Keeping Product on the Shelf: The Warehouse and Castlegate Integrations
The first real test of the partnership was a net-new warehouse partner that had to come online before product could flow to retailers. For Humble Crew, the stakes were concrete: inventory that can't be sold is inventory that sits.
Altura scoped the flows, estimated the hours, and landed the go-live ahead of schedule. Humble Crew launched the warehouse with no issues and began feeding inventory to its retailers on time.
“When we first scoped that out, Altura delivered ahead of time. In the past, those delays left inventory just sitting — collecting dust because it couldn't be sold.”
This time, the go-live was quiet. Product flowed exactly as planned, and the first clean launch set the tone for everything after it.
Next came Castlegate, Wayfair's fulfillment arm — a channel where visibility was hardest to come by. Before the integration, keeping track of sell-through and inventory levels meant logging into portals by hand, and the numbers in NetSuite didn't always reflect what had actually moved. Altura connected Castlegate to NetSuite so the data flowed automatically, restoring visibility into what had shipped and what was on hand.
“We needed visibility on orders and inventory levels without logging into their portals manually. Now we make decisions with system truth, not browser tabs.”
With each integration, NetSuite became the system the team actually reached for. Where the team once worked out of folders and worksheets scattered across Excel, Google Sheets, and Dropbox, it now relies on NetSuite far more heavily. Not perfect yet, as Fung put it, but getting closer every day.
04
Finance and Operations on the Same System
As operations stabilized, the same connected approach reached the finance team. For Humble Crew's finance lead, the value was the partnership seen from a different angle: NetSuite expertise and accounting expertise from one team, rather than two vendors handing questions back and forth. Susie Kim, Humble Crew's Accounting Manager, noted how rare it is to find people who are strong on both the accounting and the NetSuite sides at once — and that having both made the work faster and easier. The Altura team brought Humble Crew's books up to date, closing a gap that had built up over time, and put processes in place so the team could carry that progress forward.
“Altura got our books current and set up processes so they stay clean. We can finally trust NetSuite instead of patching things after the fact.”
With finance and operations running on the same source of truth, the team could stop reconciling across spreadsheets and start trusting the system — building toward the reporting and decision-making NetSuite is meant to enable.
05
A Foundation Built to Scale
The change Humble Crew is most focused on is the one still unfolding: the ability to onboard the next partner, and the one after that, without reinventing the process each time. What makes that feel achievable now is something the brand didn't have before — confidence in its own timelines. Humble Crew can commit to dates with its trading partners because Altura commits to those same dates, and keeping those dates strengthens the relationships the whole business is built on.
“The difference now is confidence. When we take on a new retailer, we know what it's going to take, how long it's going to take, and that it's going to work.”
For a brand whose promise to families depends on showing up reliably, that predictability is the point. The systems have caught up to the ambition — and the next chapter of growth has a foundation under it.
